GREAT BOOK! Finished in less than a Day!

Wow, I was a little dissappointed that the book wasn't thicker because I love to get lost in my relaxation readings. I took my time and it was so good from the begining. I always expect books to be slow in a little of the book or slow in the beginning. I was tearing throughout the book and stayed up till 7am to finish it. I started in the evening and I couldn't book the book down even though I had a massive throbbing headache, I was able to get lost in "translation"...lol well in my case book. From espionage, to thievery and deceit, the heroine was a great match for the hero of the book.

Fabulous story

I have picked up a pile of cheap books in the Boxing Day sales, and wasn't really expecting to enjoy them that much. But this book took me by surprise and I found myself with a fabulous story. It has a blazing romance, mystery and two main characters who have great depth. I loved the ups and downs that Thornton and Caroline face before they eventually come together in a way that heals them both. A beautiful, passionate story that I highly recommend.

What a Wonderful Surprise!

The excerpt on this book led me to expect something more light-hearted than intense, but intense it is, and wonderfully so! Caroline and her twin brother Thomas are on the run from something in their past, until they run afoul of Thorn Lindsay, Duke of Penborne. The duke is scarred from an explosion during an ambush in France 3 years ago, which killed his soldiers and his fiancee. He has been on his country estate, recuperating both physically and emotionally from his wounds, but when he hears that a woman is telling London society that she is his lover, he goes to London and confronts her. Since he thinks she is a courtesan (because of her public statement about having him as a lover), he 'convinces' her to spend a night with him, and she accepts because she and her brother desperately need the money. Neither one escapes that night emotionally intact, however. She disappears, and when they meet again some 16 months later, he again 'convinces' her to do his bidding - painting portraits this time and, oh yes, sleeping with him - because she has kept someone important from him. While both are trying to come to terms with their pasts - and share them with each other, there's a kidnapping or two and attempted murder to deal with. The author masterfully puts all of this together so that the reader cares about all three major players - Caroline, Thorn, and Thomas - as we learn how their lives were intertwined before and after they met, and see how they are able to help heal each other.

Enjoyable

I grabbed this book because I was out of books to read was expecting an okay ready. I was pleasantly surprised. It was a good book to read. I read it in a day and a half could not put it down. There was a lot of excitement and suspense and had some interesting turns. The romance of the story was not as great as some others that is why it did not get 5 stars from me. If a couple's romance was written really well by the end of the book you are near tears this book did not have that but it was a heart warming story and I would definitely recommend it to others who like to read these kind of stories.
