Adult Halloween Hit

Not a large,loud music party lover, I prefer the intimacy of getting friends (old and new) together starring good conversation, excellent food and fun activities. This Halloween, a friend and I planned a really delicious Alice Waters (CHez Panisse ) menu for dinner, followed by a post prandial "Viewing the Moon" stroll, to return to creative mask making! Earlier, a neighbor helped me cut out the cardboard templates for the attractive Bird Masks in this book. Altering the author's long pointed beaks to include local birds (heron, falcon, raven and duck) added a bit more choice, and perhaps invited more creativity. We chose from fabric, stockcard paper and real feathers. Sitting with others quietly concentrating, absorbed in choices and creation is both deeply pleasurable and a learning experience, acquainting each other with far more than just left brain interaction. Thank you Lyndie Wright for such clear directions and pictures! My guests took home, not just an inexpensive souvenir, but something they made themselves that will remind them of friends and a pleasurable evening for as long as they wish to keep it!
