Finally! An old fashioned crafts book!

I don't want to learn how to knit with dog hair or create modern, bizarre sculpture. I want to learn the traditional crafts, and now I have a book to help me! Hooray! Having read Maryjane's previous book, I knew I was in for a treat with this stitching book. Beautiful photos, detailed instructions, subjects that interest me. It's as if I were sitting with my Mother and she was telling me family stories while she was teaching me how to create beatiful gifts and items for my home. I can't wait to see what Maryjane comes up with next!

A Must-Have!!!

I loved MaryJane's first book, MaryJane's Ideabook, Cookbook, Lifebook, and couldn't wait to get this spin-off stitching workbook. It didn't disappoint. With more of the wonderful stories and photos we found in the first book, MaryJane's Stitching Room gives us lots of old-fashioned projects and techniques for everyone from beginners to accomplished stitchers. You can learn to crochet from scratch using her easy-to-follow step-by-step instructions (with both photos AND drawings!) and one of the many crochet patterns in the book, embroider a dishtowel, and even stitch up a jacket for your espresso. You can even learn the nearly-lost art of tatting (easier than you think!) from close-up photos of the stitches and very clear instructions. The beautifully photographed pages show old-fashioned techniques made into 47 new and modern projects - all with MaryJane's signature farmgirl flair!

A "must have" treasure!

I have to start with a big "Thank You" to Mary Jane Butters for her beautiful and easy to understand stitching book! I have crocheted simple small projects that only required repetitive rows of stitching because I couldn't understand the hard to follow instructions for anything else. Mary Janes Stitching Book helped me to finally "get it!" After reading the story about Helen Butters, MJ's mother, favorite hexagon pattern I decided to give it a try.Page 70. It turned out perfect and beautiful. My first " fancy pattern"! The instructions were so easy to understand and follow.I am now working on the hierloom quality tablecloth I have always dreamed of but never dared try to make! Thank you a hundred times!Anyone who loves needlework will treasure this beautiful and well written book. The perfect gift. Mrs. Tracy Smith

The Best!

If you're only going to buy one sewing book this summer...this is the one! Absolutely beautiful illustrations, very clear photographic instructions. A real plus for me as I'm a "visual" learner! And I loved the sweet and interesting little bits about rural life and real people from 19 to 90 who enjoy doing various needle arts. This is a book you will enjoy for many years as it's chocked full of patterns and lovely things that stir you to creativity! I'm so glad I decided to buy this book! I highly recommend it... Kate~

Beautiful blend of instruction, photography, and conversation.

MaryJane opens her book by welcoming you into her home and her life. She takes you through a verbal tour of a morning with her which culminates in reaching her Stitching Room. As with her magazine and previous book "MaryJanes's Ideabook, Cookbook, Lifebook" the photos are photo gallery perfect. She captures the beauty and elegance of sewing in photo and her easy going conversational style of writing. She has some great stories to tell and some amazing people to introduce you to. And this book isn't just to enjoy reading and looking at. She has practical projects. Not to mention the easy to understand instructions for nearly 50 sewing projects! She has photo and hand drawn illustrations to help guide you through the projects. And if you don't know how to crochet or tat, she has a wonderful section that applies equally well for a beginner or someone that just needs a refresher course. So if you love anything from sewing to beautiful photography I highly recommend this book. It has become the pride and joy of my coffee table, which also happens to be in _my_ sewing room! :)
