Not the best book, but practical and inspirational

I'm not overly impressed with the general layout of this book. It's not extrememly well organized, though not horrible. The author is very sincere, but I think the editors could have done far more to smooth out the writing. At times, the authors thoughts and ideas seem somewhat random. I've read many fitness books, including ones by Christian authors that were better stated and easier to follow HOWEVER, Marty still gets her message across. She makes some similar recommendations as you would see in virutally any general market book, though hers are more practical. She doesn't give lists of single meals that take 45 minutes of preparation for one person to eat. She gives some wonderful, practical advice on starting where you are and getting to where you want to be. She is the first author I've seen who gives great ideas on how to incorporate fitness with your family. She also, unlike some contemporary authors, seems to understand what it's like getting on this path while juggling children. She, herself struggled with the "post pregnancy blah" and getting back all she had lost, so her attitude is not a condemning one. She's been there, and it shows. This isn't hokus pokus and it isn't counting calories/carbs, etc. Marty addresses some of the heart issues that cause us to reach for food instead of God, and even gives solid scriptural advice on how to grow spiritually in the areas of discipline and caring for oneself. Despite having read many so called "Fitness" books, I still got a good bit out of this and will probably read it again. Again, the book isn't stunning in presentation, but Marty is sincere, she truly has "been there" and she doesn't carry the snooty, "I did it so you can to" that we all get tired of hearing. If you are struggling with issues of self-discipline and cannot stick to a diet, read Marty's book AND apply the suggestions. It will change you.
