Must Read for Singles of All Ages

I am 33 years old. I've read "The Rules" like many women. "The Rules" give a woman games she can play that will actually help her win a man (and kept the authors selling books since there is a Rules book for marriage--no, the games never end). However, this book is based on sound advice and clinical experience. The author uses real world examples that most women can relate to regarding attitudes and behaviors that keep some of us on the merry go round of bad, noncommitted relationships. Forget theories or pat advice about what may happen if a woman does this or that. Cabot is explicit in her message that if a woman over 30, is not married and wants to be -- she needs to look at herself and the way she handles her relationships. Cabot herself is a relationship psychologist and married for the first time in her forties. After reading this book, I feel as though I am hearing men talk to me for the first time. I actually hear what they are saying. I can instantly tell the ones with potential from the ones that need to be dumped. Highly recommended reading for all brides to be. Good luck.

real advice for real women

I found Cabot's style and advice to be very practical and unpatronizing. She advocates reinforcing your independence throughout the book, asking for and getting what YOU want (not making yourself into what the man you happen to be after wants), and overcoming unhelpful patterns. This book was very helpful and enjoyable; it appealed to me as a modern independent female despite that it was not published recently; Cabot was ahead of her time!
