An acclaimed author makes a triumphant return to historical romance with this captivating Christmas tale of an arranged marriage that becomes a passionate union. Original.
Jane Goodger is an excellent author and I have enjoyed her stories since her first novel (When There is Hope.) This one is a bit more standard fare, but I like the fact that she based it on a real person and events of her life. It was an entertaining read.
Engaging

The characters are enjoyable and the "breakthrough" for the heroine was poignant, but her actions and inattention to what caused their issues was not that believable - suddenly she "forgot" her intentions behind that necklace? c'mon. Still, if you can get past that it was worth the time to get to know these two.
Some what Sad - but a good book over all....

Here is the premise Elizabeth Cummings is an 18 year old American heiress who her parents offered Duke Randall Blackmore a huge amount of money to marry their daughter. He travels to American to find a love sick teenager who doesn't want to marry him - but he needs the money and he finds that he could potential love her. Elizabeth is very immature through most of the book - I had to remind myself she was a VERY sheltered teenager but I thought the Duke was WONDERFUL! I really liked the connection their best friends - looking forward to her next book.

Loved this book from the first page. I've never read anything by this author before, but I'm glad I took the chance and picked it up.

I absolutely loved this book. I thought Elizabeth was a believable and terrific heroine. I completely empathized with her plight. Imagine being nineteen years old and being forced to marry not only a man you hardly know, but one you do not love. Then imagine you're in love with someone else. Thankfully, Ms. Goodger gave Elizabeth the perfect hero in Rand. This is not a one-dimensional book, it is one that requires a bit of understanding of life and people and their motivations. I hope Maggie's story is next. I've read most of Ms. Goodger's books and this is one of my favorites.
