Interesting, exciting and sensual

She is next in line as a guardian of a scroll that she has spent most of her life resenting. Contending with a bitchy coworker and problems she needs to resolve in her art, more distraction are unwelcome, even if one is as hot as fire. Being chased by thugs doesn't even prepare her for the worst yet to come. Through it all, a seriously sexy Rhys demands her attention. I think this is one very sexy story. It is fast moving, with enough sex and excitement to make me ask, "When is her next book??" Kate Perry is very talented at evoking responses in her readers with her use of well-written descriptions, as in the following: His gaze dropped to my lips before returning to my eyes "And you believe I'll do anything to get it?" "Yes." Risky, being this close to him. Even his scent was seriously drugging. He rested his hand and mine over my heart this time, which beat hard and fast. I wanted to tell him my mark was lower, but I wasn't sure having his hand down there was wise, especially in public. "Perhaps you're the one who will agree to anything." Before I could answer, his lips claimed mine. Hot and searing, I felt the kiss all through my body. My hand gripped hid shoulder for balance, and I curled into the heat of it. He flattened his palm over my nipple, and I thought I was going to spontaneously combust. This book is aimed at the romantic genre, specifically for those into the paranormal, though all will enjoy it. I am not normally a fan of paranormal writing, but I did enjoy this book, and look forward to Perry's next. I found the author's tale to be interesting, exciting and sensual. It is exactly what I look for in a romance novel. In my hurry to find out what happened, I flew through the book too soon, and now will have to search for any others she has written. She is definitely on my look-for-list!

Awesome new series!

Author Kate Perry enters the paranormal genre with a wonderful new series that will delight all lovers of things that go bump in the night....especially as it invokes a certain sense of expectation and a need to turn the page to see what happens next. I found the book had moments of truly eerie spookiness, hot sensuality and a plot that I believe will catch on and rank up there with a few of my favorite series written by authors J.R. Ward, Marjorie M Liu, Nalini Singh, Christine Feehan, Sherrilyn Kenyon and Kim Harrison. I eat up the spooky, the unknown, the spark of fear that comes with the thought "what if?" that you get sometimes in the middle of a great paranormal story. I heartily recommend all to get a copy of Marked by Passion and settle in for some great reading. Kudos to Ms Perry!!

Can Gabe become a guardian without losing herself?

Gabe had left her family and her heritage behind 15 years ago - after her mother had died - for which she was responsible. She was now a bartender at The Pour House and an aspiring artist. With her first showing in a few weeks, all she had to worry about was finishing the paintings in the series - or so she thought. When the package arrived, she assumed it was the contract for her showing - until she discovered it was accompanied by a ghost! The ghost of her father, Wu, no less. It came as a shock to her to realize that her father was dead, but she had put her family and heritage behind her long ago - and now they were back. The package contained a scroll and she had just become it's guardian. Tu ch'i - the power that accompanied the scroll - began to surge inside her. Wu had come to teach her how to control her power before it controlled - or worse - destroyed her. Two more men entered her life within days of receiving the scroll. Her older brother, Paul, who had always felt he should be the one destined to be the Guardian, but without the birthmark, it was not his destiny. And then Rhys - who was handsome, rich, powerful - and could calm Gabe's tu ch'i with just a kiss. I have not read a lot of paranormal books, but they are quickly becoming my favorite. Kate Perry gives her characters such life. Even though it was a paranormal - I felt like these were people you could actually find at the corner bar. The chemistry between Gabe and Rhys sizzled off the page! In addition to Gabe, Wu, Paul and Rhys there is also Jesse - Gabe's ex-boyfriend from a year ago, Carrie - another bartender and the epitome of the Midwestern girl next door and Vivian, the buxom bartender you love to hate. These people rounded out the story and helped to give it a realistic flair. If you like paranormal, you will like this book - if you like romance, this book will also appeal to you. If you like both - then this will be a true winner!

Fun, engaging and did I mention HOT?

Gabe Sansouci left her past behind 15 years ago and moved to San Francisco, where she's on the verge of her first big break as a painter by day and a bartender by night. It's the worst possible time for her past to come back to haunt her, but haunt her it does -- in the form of the ancient, powerful scroll she's marked to protect and the spirit of the father she never got along with. Gabe doesn't want the responsibility, since the one time she tried to learn caused a devastating response. However, the guardian of the scroll is given powers that overwhelm her and make it impossible to ignore her destiny. Especially when Rhys Llewellyn, handsome, dangerous, mysterious and well dressed, shows up. Coincidence? Not likely. Even as heat flares between them at every glance, Gabe is left to determine his true intentions, as well as her own desires. This book had me hooked from page one. Perry's fun, engaging writing style makes you feel like Gabe is sitting right next to you, and you're along the ride with her. Throw in some fun secondary characters, a scorching romantic interest and a few twists, and this is a must-read book. I can't wait for book 2.

Kate Perry fires up this book in the Guardians of Destiny series. Enchanting, a little bit naughty and a perfect mixture of spice, Marked by Passion is breathtaking! Gabrielle Sansouci Chin, aka Gabe has just inherited her destiny. She wanted no part of what her life is now going to be, just because she was marked by the Ancients didn't mean she was the one that would be the best candidate for the scroll. All she wanted to do was work at the Pour House as a bartender, leading a normal life and paint. I mean she literally held the world in her hands. Being the carrier of the Earth scroll, she must do her best to keep it out of the wrong hands, and she must trust no one... not even those that she thought she knew. Rhys Llewellyn shows up out of the blue, coincidence? I think not, he is after one thing and one thing alone; but once he learns more about Gabe, his plans will have to be altered. He is also a Guardian, and he's a man who gets what he wants. Right now he wants two things, Gabe's scroll and her heart. But one is just about as hard to get as the other, especially when he is not the only one trying to harness the ancient Chinese power. To tell the truth, Gabe doesn't know how to control it either, or the spirit of her father that just happens to come with the territory of the scroll. Love, needing, want, and deceit, all play vital rolls in this amazing paranormal romance penned by Kate Perry.
