Brings new relevance to the book of Mark. This first volume is an excellent reference for personal Bible study or sermon preparation with a practical, anecdotal style. Part of the Preaching the Word series.
I am currently preaching through Mark and Kent Hughes' book is a great "final resource" after my exegesis is complete. I have used several of his illustrations and many times, he has confirmed that I am keeping the "main thing the main thing" from the text in my sermons. Don't get me wrong, this is not JUST for Preachers. It is a great non-technical commentary. For serious study, I suggest pairing this book with W. Lane's "Gospel of Mark" in the NICNT series.
Kent Hughes books

I have bought six or eight of Kent Hughes books, including the two on Mark. His books are adapted from sermons he has preached and are a very good combination of scripture, comments and meaningful illustrations. I use his books to help me prepare to teach Sunday School lessons. I have not bought any other pastors books for this purpose, so you can see that I think very highly of Kent Hughes writings.
