From Nobuyuki Anzai, creator of "Flame of Recca," comes the tale of Ginta, a jnior high loser who enters the vivid world of his dreams where, at last, he is a hero This description may be from another edition of this product.
Mar has managed to win the first three rounds of the War Games, a series of battles that will decide the fate of the world of Marchen. Now, the fourth round is about to begin, with a subsequent step-up in the fighting abilities of their opponents. Phantom has sent his most powerful group of Chess Pieces to fight Ginta and company, led by the insane and violent Rapunzel, who fancies herself a beauty queen, even though she looks like a butch truck driver on steroids! When one of her teammates loses a battle she cuts off their head with no remorse and with a laugh from her lips! That's how nice she is. If that's how she treats her allies, just imagine what she'll do if Mar loses! The past couple of volumes of Mar have focused exclusively on the War Games, which means whole books have been taken up with fighting. And you know what? So far, that's ok with me, because a lot of the villains are so evil that you WANT to see them get stomped! Too bad, you won't get to see the battle between Rapunzel and Dorothy until next volume, because that "lady" is pure evil. You feel repulsed as she kills each Chess Piece one after the other, because some of them didn't seem all that bad, and could've been brought over to Mar's side. This series also works because you really care about the characters and want to see them triumph over their own weaknesses. There are tiny bits of background in each volume but most of the characters still have very enigmatic pasts which I hope will be revealed a little more after the War Games are won. This is a really good action title. I would also highly recommend The Law of Ueki.
