The best football autobiography I have ever read The Sunday Times
Alex Ferguson is a legend in his lifetime, universally respected for his tough, but caring managerial style. This book covers the beginning of his football career, including his triumphant 1999 run to the treble and a Knighthood from the Queen. Covering his tough Govan upbringing through to his playing days and onto his shift into management, Managing...
Stellar read with much insight into football (soccer) at many different levels. Sir Alex has an amazing story to tell and if you want to better understand the global love hate relationship with Manchester United...no need to look further. This is not a book on soccer tactics although they are discussed, but instead is exactly what the the title states; the story of Ferguson's life. It is well written and he doesn't hold back or sugar coat any controversial happenings, he rather tells it as it is through his mind's eye which is refreshing and makes for an engaging read. I recommend this to anyone who is interested in seeing pure passion, leadership and hard work mold boys into men who win trophies and titles for the record books, but the greater achievement is their development of integrity and character that Sir Alex instills in them through tough love and discipline. Ferguson is always fighting the good fight, battle by battle and leading with a steadfast faith knowing that the end justifies the means. This book expanded my horizons (being from the states) and I couldn't put it down and am looking forward to hearing the rest of the story when it is all said and done.
Brilliant Book

This is the best sports book I have read. It is a great insight into arguably the best manager ever in the history of soccer. I always respected Sir Alex Ferguson anyway, but after reading this book, I even have more respect for his tactics and especially his ethical approach to life in general. Whether you are a soccer coach yourself, just a sports fan, or a business manager looking for insight into how to manage people better you will enjoy this book.
A MUST for all United fans!

Being a soccer fan of the club Manchester United for 15 years, this book is truly a revealing account inside the mind of one of the greatest soccer managers of British Football. This autobiography shows how a seemingly ordinary man was able to achieve phenomenal success in his managerial career. Alex HATES to be on the losing side and this is a major motivation for him to achieve success constantly on the pitch and on his personal life. I would love to recommend this book to all Manchester United fans as well as sports psychologists and people working in a competitive environment. To achieve success (in whatever field), one MUST have confidence in his/her own ability and take on the world like a soldier on the battlefield. People with low self-esteem should read this book to bring out their own competitive nature. Finally, the statistics which show Alex Ferguson's playing and managerial record (at the end of the book) is indeed invaluable to the true soccer fan. This provides the "icing on the cake" for this honest work of brilliance by Ferguson.
Superb Book about a truly great coach

Being an avid supporter of Manchester United I have always been very keen to have an insight into the life and times of one of the club's greatest ever manager. The book clearly portrays the great mans early days and his tough upbringing by the Clyde in Glasgow. Uniquely, in a city which had major religous differences Alex's parents were from a mixed marriage. We get a great insight into Alex's early footballing life and the tough times that his family endured in surviving.A fascinating discussion about Alex Fergusans time as a player were amongst other clubs represented Glasgow Rangers. Even as a player we could to realise that he had a volatile temperment which would continue to serve him as a natural football leader. From success at the unfashionable Aberdeen football Club to the pressures of managing one of the biggest sports clubs in the world Alex remains how much his childhood upbringing continues to be a major backbone of his life.A truly great read into the one of soccers most respected characters.
