A novel of sexual politics, incisive and well-told

From the "it's been sitting in the to-be-read pile for years": ten years ago or so I read David Guy's "The Autobiography of My Body" and I loved it. I'd known Guy for his young adult football novel, "Football Dreams" though I'd never actually read it. Recently I read his first novel for adults, "The Man Who Loved Dirty Books". As with "Autobiography" it's a novel of sexual politics, incisive and well-told. There's a murder mystery subplot but it's completely secondary to the exploration of the central characters' lives. It is an adult novel in the best sense of the word.
