It was possible, after reading this book, for me to imagine myself as a Freudian expert in the humor of the Vietnam war with absolutely no concern about what kind of occupational environment I might find myself in. I recently acquired the book to remind myself of how certain people strive for perfection in ways that are considered professional. The draft helped me escape from that kind of thinking, and 40 years of recapitulation of my year in Vietnam with a week in Cambodia makes my own individual reactions that much stronger as isolation from people operating on faith that they are part of something larger than themselves but lacking a sense of monstrosity about the nature of the abomination arising from the disgrace of falling into a cultivation of stupidity in the interest of social cohesion makes me wish I could increase the distance shown on the hexagram chart of six vocational preferences between the conventional occupations and those who are artistic.
