Excellent Primer for Deuteronomy 11 Mothering

The ideas in this book are lovely aids to naturally teaching scriptural concepts to your children. If you are an experienced mother or the child of a parent who 'parented on purpose,' you may not need these tips. When I was a new mother I found it an invaluable idea-sparker for incorporating spiritual truths into our daily lives. There are 41 short chapters (most only two pages) with specific ideas connected to specific activities. This includes things to talk about, pray about, sing about, and Bible verses to read with your child. For example, chapter one is about 'getting up.' Mrs. Pelfrey suggests waking your child by singing "This is the day the Lord has made..." (she even offers an alternative tune for those who don't know one), reciting a specific verse together at breakfaast, praying together, talking about your goals for the day together, teaching him to pray a prayer of thanksgiving in the morning, leaving notes to him at night, and a Bible verse for discussion. There are ideas for teachable moments in daily routines, when making bread, when company comes, when going to church, the zoo, or a ball game. There are teachable moments for storms, rainbows, mountains, snow, each season, holidays, moving, losing a pet, and many more. Most young mothers would find something of use in this book. It's a great way to spark your own creativity, too.
