Each expression is paired with a large image of a baby's face. Children are asked to mimic the face, then pick it out from a group of other babies. At the end, readers are invited to make all the faces introduced in a unique and exciting way--with a mirror right on the last page. Little ones will learn as they play and will delight in mimicking expressions--especially the "surprised" face "White backgrounds provide maximum contrast for the photos, which readily telegraph each emotion, and an embedded mirror lets children see their own happy, silly, and other emotive expressions." ―Publishers Weekly"Full-color head shots depict a diverse group of toddlers exhibiting a range of facial expressions that indicate a variety of emotions, from happy to sad and surprised to amused." --School Library Journal Also available in the Baby Loves Books Collection: Baby Loves Baby Up, Baby Down
Sad and disappointed: good book, misleading condition
Published by Anna , 1 year ago
I chose "good" expecting some wear and tear, maybe even light pencil markings or scuffs. This is unusable. The entire premise of the book is emotional intelligence for toddlers, which requires decent visuals so the expressions in the pictures are visible. Every page of this book is covered in blue marker (highlighter?) so the pictures are not anywhere clear enough to read expressions. If this were a book of landscapes or art I might shrug and say it adds a creative touch, even though I'd be a little sad the pictures aren't clear, and I might not leave a review. But the scribbles are so thick, and so widespread, that the book is rendered ineffective. Maybe it could have been marked as "acceptable" with some heavy qualifiers, but even that would be generous. This is one of my first few books from this site as I'm trying to move away from Amazon books, and I'm disheartened to see the dishonest (or maybe just negligent?) condition choice.
