Excellent introductory and reference tool

Yetman's text is a helpful overview of the sociology of race and ethnicity in the United States taken from a problem-to-problem approach. All of the major sociological contributions on these matters from residential segregation, assimilation, multiculturalism and more are covered with useful examples of recent articles from prominent scholars in sociology. In recent years however new research has focused on the role of religion in racial dynamics and the continuing changes in immigration. These newer items are not yet incorporated in this text.As an undergraduate text, there is also the potential complaint that the absence of photographs may make the material seem more abstract and less accessible. Overall this is an excellent textbook and I highly recommend it for classroom use and for use in scholarly research to gain access to the complex field of race and ethnicity.
