The Therapeutic State and the American public school tragedy.

While coming to grips with my travails with "special" education it was this book which led me to find that I was not alone. It is a stunningly detailed guide as to what a truly insidious nightmare "special" education is within our corrupt American public school system, where kids are assigned to it not because they are defective but simply because they choose to march to a different drummer and thus being harmed by cowardly callow teachers who simply don't like such precocious children. They're not sick or misbehaving. They're perfectly normal kids who still think and act for themselves against a fascistic system which cannot tolerate diversity. The irony is that this supposedly "liberal" system has led to the new segregation where kids are harmed by know-nothing do-gooders with nothing better to do than "teach" kids how to live as though they're defective in some way...for their own good, of course. For those who are undergoing indoctrination into the therapettic state "for their own good" beware that this little book pulls no punches. The entire mythology of lies such as "attention deficit disorder" and "minimal brain damage", lies which correlate with the recovery group movement and its business arm, the addiction treatment industry, are deftly deconstructed. Witness as so-called "professionals" wind up inculating children with the harmful beliefs that these kids are "diseased" in some way (the kids are all right...it's the system which is malignant). It was twenty years ago when I was in the middle of that hell. Coming to grips with this knowledge as I study to be a social worker within the addiction field and I found myself literally raging against the system which once forsaken me. Now, knowing what I know now, I found to be a liberating experience and thus found closure. Parents, if you're badgered by know-nothing public school peons, sycophants and bureaucrats in general (both inside and outside the public school system) and told that your kid NEEDS "special" education, read this book first. Learn that the system needs your kid more than your kid needs it. After all, it's a scam designed to siphon taxpayer funds away from our citizens' wallets to promote the Big Lie and make your freethinking child into a mindless, drugged-up and obedient drone of the welfare state. Well written. Concise. Perfect for laypeople. The professional apologists for the failed system at hand will undoubtedly hate it. I say, "GOOD!" This is definitely a book due for a 20th anniversary update.
