Sorpanos Season is coming -- Getting Ready By Reading This B

These vivid, often hilarious descriptions of the real life mafia are a perfect way to get into the mood for the upcoming Soprano season in March. I especially enjoyed knowing that these were the real Wiseguys, based on actual transcriptions and real court cases, so I knew Smith had created an authentic look at what is left of the mafia. I howled with laughter in many cases.

The Sopranos in real life...

"Made Men" by Greg B. Smith, is everything I hoped it would be when I bought it. When I bought the book I wanted to read into what the Sopranos were really like, and the book did just that. The book follows the small crime family of the DeCavalcantes. I felt like I was reading about the Sopranos (at times even people in the DeCavalcantes thought the Sopranos were based around them) but this had more details then the Sopranos because it was real. In the book the Author included real conversations between people in the DeCavalcantes crime family, which only added to the overall effect of the book. At the the begining the DeCavalcantes crime family were small times guys making their way up in the the crime world, and towards the end they were falling apart left and right. Everything in between was a delight to read. If you are a fan of the Sopranos or anything related to the Mob I highly suggest you pick this book up to get a better feel of what the Mob was really like...

rich detail, driving story

Constantly energetic and captivating story of a world that not many people get to see. The narrative is wonderfully detailed and clear, the descriptions are fresh and exact, and the author puts in when he can some provocative ideas about the relationship between life and culture ("TV gangsters had become the ideal to which real wiseguys aspired"). Really fun read.

If you are missing your Sopranos Fix, Read This Now

``Made Men,'' by Greg B. Smith is a real page turner. Small time crime at its best, this book describes a family that could and may be the real Sopranos, and reading it is like watching an episode -- only funnier. These bumbling mobsters get in and out of scams throughout Brooklyn, Queens, New Jersey and Staten Island and the book provides an illuminating look at what is left of the mafia today. A quick, fun read, filled with vivid details and lively writing.
