great book if not for the heroine.....

I would have given this Scottish historical romance 5 stars except for the annoying stubbornness of the heroine. When Meg was a teenager, she and her mother walked in on what they thought was Meg's father having a extramarital affair. Though the husband swore it was not as it appears, the wife left him and moved back to England for 10 years. After witnessing this, Meg, rightfully so, has trust issues with men. But it is written in the extreme in her relationship with the hero-whom she browbeats almost the entire book-when time and again the hero is nothing but nice to her. She finally "sees the light"-but so late in the book that it hampers the storyline. Add to that an extremely unlikable and prejudiced Grandmother, and you get a bit above average romance instead of the exceptional book it could have been. Still worthy of a read if you can find it at a reasonable price used. 3.5 stars!

Erotic, Extremely Romantic and Very Sexy

Okay, so I absolutely LOVED this book. I thought the writing was clever, the dialogue funny, the plot convincing and the sex scenes amazing. MacLaren was the ultimate hero. Manly, virile, gorgeous and with a sexual appetite the size of Texas, he radiated sensuality, confidence and self-assuredness while underneath he hid a body scarred with wounds from war - compounded by an insecurity about the way his virgin captive would react when she saw them. Yet the lovemaking was so sweet! And so very, very HOT! I was practically drooling. I don't know if I've said enough about the plot to be helpful, but this is an awesome book. If you want to read something that will make you tear with its endearing, bitter-sweet dialogue, and make you get goosebumps during its passionate sex scenes, then you'll definately love this book.

Nice -- good plot

I liked this - my first Debra Dier book. I love the perspective coming from the man's side as well as the woman's. I wish more authors would write from the man's perspective. At one point, I began to dislike the female characters. I lost most sympathy for them, but in the end, I am glad I stayed with the book. The male character made it all worthwhile.
