wonderful book but the condition was only okay not very good

Just got this book the exterior was dirty, corners bent up, however the interior was very good and I will enjoy reading it and looking at Macke's artwork. I don't need money back for it, I did clean off the exterior and it looked better after that, just letting you know.

Creative Genius

This book is a great find for anyone with an interest in German Expressionism or the Blaue Reiter Group. Meseure's treatment of Macke's early inspiration and artistic development is very balanced. But make no mistake, no one at all could walk away from this book without the feeling that August Macke should be a household name. The manner by which he synthesized elements of French Impressionism and Cubism will leave you to spend much of your spare time poring over his works. Definitely a must read!

Good value and nicely printed

This is a short book (96 pages) on August Macke, the German painter who was a member of the "Blaue Reiter" group. Sadly, he was killed in the initial months of World War I at a tragically early age. Who knows what he would have accomplished? His sense of color and reduction of form and shape to flat, almost abstract design is revolutionary and paved the way for Cubism. He did watercolors, often as studies for his oils, and his paintings from Tunisia are especially beautiful. He portrayed the everyday (women shopping for hats, people sitting in cafes) in beautifully colored and composed paintings of light. If you don't know Macke's work, this is a fine introduction.
