MAC BOOKS

This book is without question THE best source of information for the Mac operating system. It is very clear and allows one to solve just about any problem that may come up - - even on older Macs.

A necessary 1st step for new Mac users.

Why doesn't Apple make a book like this? even on a CD included with the computer? These are powerful machines, yet it takes a 3rd party to explain how to use that power. I was going to give this book a 4, until I remembered this is for 1st time users of Macs (which I am) and that it covers such a breadth of subjects (including network connections and the Automator) that I figured it deserves a 5.

good book for beginners and switchers

Since I switched from Windows to iMac I was looking for a book the gives me an overview over the system. This book does an excellent job in doing so. It covers everything you need to know goes into some detail, but not too deep (which also would not be possible in a book like this, otherwise it would be thousands of pages long). I can really recommend this book for people who switch or beginners. (this is basically the the same review I wrote for the Mac OS X - the missing manual ... I think both are very comparable and equally good ... I preferred the layout of the missing manual, but thats just personal preference)

Great book for anyone.

I recently switched to Macs, being a PC user for the past 15 years. Since I work in a retail store where they sell Macs, I always had the opportunity to "get to know" the system, but I knew I wanted more. With very little knowledge of Macs and OS X in general I took the jump and bought a Mac. This book along with it. What I really like about this book, and one of the main reasons why I bought it, is its 900+ pages. I had seen other Tiger books with many less pages which also covered a lot less. This book taught me well how to set up a new Mac (even though it's pretty self explanatory), how to work with folder permissions, how to install & remove programs, how to optimize the OS and customize it to the way I work. It also helped me connect my Mac to my Windows network. I also learned how to create user accounts and do software updates, how to work with iPhoto & iMovie, and also a little bit of troubleshooting so you can help your Mac when it's having a little trouble. I'm very glad I bought this book. I am now able to enjoy & use my Mac to do things I couldn't or even thought of because I didn't know they existed. You'll also learn keyboard shortcuts, which are very nice and save you a bit of time. I highly recommend it to anyone switching from PCs, or any earlier adopter of OS X.

Better than Ever

I'm a dedicated Mac user, early adopter and long-time customer for the Mac OS Bible, going back to the Lon Poole days. This venerable book has been around for more than a decade and has certainly seen its ups and downs. I am happy to report that this new edition is the most solid version of the book in years, and maybe ever. In addition to its definitive, user-friendly Tiger coverage, it is comprehensive in many other ways as well, even in regard to tips and techniques for using popular third-party apps. What I like most about the book is its easy-to-read get concise style that gets to the point of the topic without beating around the bush. I have yet to find a Tiger topic or answer to a question that this edition doesn't have covered. Great job, Litt & Co.
