I was pleasantly surprised by this book. The story was about heroine originally tried to teach hero a lesson about the danger and unfairness of flirting with other women which ranged from a daughter, a mother, to a widow, but ended up falling into love herself with this charming scoundrel. However, leopards don't change their spots, and it took a great deal of emotional recognition to achieve the final happy ending. The heroine was portrayed as a soft-spoken, generous-natured, graceful lady, which was different from other high-spirited, independent bluestockings appeared often in other novels. And hero was a titled, handsome-looking gentleman with enough wealth and charm to attract just about any women; In his privileged life, Lord Roderick was not sensitive about what outcomes all these liaisons would come to, and Ms. Neil did a outstanding job on revealing both Lucy and Lord Roderick's gradual understanding and appreciation of one another. Ms. Neil's approach was different from other writers on the infidelity issue which made this quite an insightful read.
