Zanthi Fitzroy grew on the Caribbean island of Jumelle on her family's plantation, then went to university in England and, much to her father's chagrin, decided to stay in England and go to work for the diplomatic service. Now she's come home, assigned to Government House as Jumelle as part of the British Empire. Her immediate superior, Lieutenant Paul Benham, is a lady's man is currently messing around with her ladyship, the governor's wife. He has also been after Zanthi to go out with him. Zanthi wants nothing to do with him, instead being more interested in the demonstrations that are going on in town that Benham seems to think are nothing to worry about. Then the Overseas Development Association sends a surveyor named Garran Crossley to the island and Zanthi is required to go out into the jungle with him while he does his work. But what is the real reason why he's been sent to Jumelle? And are the local demonstrations going to get out of hand? And will Zanthi be able to stop Garran from stealing her heart? You'll find out the answers to the above questions, all presented in the first pages, when you read this super romance. This is the first work by Dana James that I've read and it was written back in 1989, so I'm sure there are more out there and I'm going to be looking for them.
