I have long been a fan of Valerie Sherwood's writing. Yes, it's often predictable, but any reader of the romance genre knows to expect a certain amount of formula from its veteran authors. Irate this book as a favorite purely as a fun read in a historical setting. I actually learned a few things I didn't know about English politics in the seventeenth century. The settings described can be lovely or at other times painfully bitter. There are implausible plot lines and irritatingly beautiful characters, but the story has the mythical quality of a goodfairy tale - you want to read and imagine it over and over again.
