I used to have dozens and dozens of teen romance novels when I was 12 and 13. I got rid of most of them, but this was one I just had to keep, and I still read it even though I'm 25! It's a great book if you want to relax and read something light-hearted. Laurie Cavanaugh gets a job as a lifeguard for the summer and ends up working on the beach with Andy Hawthorne, the biggest jerk she's ever met. He's constantly reminding her of the tiny rules she's breaking, he treats her with cold arrogance, and he won't even call her by her name! What she doesn't realize is that underneath the brusque exterior is someone who admires her more than she realizes --- and someone to whom she can give her heart. I loved the romantic tension in this novel, it was great! And there was story beyond just the romance, which rounded the novel out quite well. Deborah Kent did a good job of fleshing out her characters and keeping the level of excitement and interest high throughout the course of the novel. This is one of the very few teen romances I think should still be on shelves today! I want a reprint!
