Love Thine Enemy

I'm a fan of the Love Inspired historical series and so was pleased to see one set in such a unique and interesting era. You don't see too many historical romances set in Colonial Florida and it was this unusual setting that drew my eye to this book. It's about a young woman, Rachel Folger, who is extremely loyal to the cause of the American patriots. However instead of being allowed to stay in Boston and help fight for this cause, her father has dragged her to Florida. Living in Florida Rachel doesn't get much of a chance to help the patriot cause. She soon learns though that there is a secret patriot operating in her town. Rachel is determined to discover who this patriot is and help him with the cause. Meanwhile she has developed feelings for a young plantation owner, Frederick, who is loyal to the Crown. Both Rachel and Frederick must deal with the complexity of their conflicting loyalties and the intrigue and dangers that were rampant in colonial America. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can only wish there were more authors willing to take a stab at setting their stories in unusual times and places. So many historical fiction books seem to have the same type of settings (for example, the 19th century American west is very popular for Christian authors) and it gets a bit dull after awhile. The author of this book does an excellent job in bringing colonial America to life and I wish there were more authors who would set their stories during this time period. The characters of the book are relatable and likable and there is a lot of suspense and intrigue in the plot, along with some interesting twists. I definitely recommend this book to all who enjoy Christian historical romance.

Good Little Book

Good things come in good packages and I love it when I get a good little book. Love Thine Enemy is the story of Rachel Folger, a patriot sympathizer living in colonial Florida. She falls for Frederick Moberly, a man whose loyalties lay firmly with the crown. One of the most impressive things about this book is its unique location. Most historical book about the American revolution are set in places closer to the north, like Virginia or Boston. But this story was set in Florida and gave a very enlightening picture of how states far removed from the fighting might have handled the Revolution. The book also had some great plot twists and great historical perspective on the war, prisoners and sympathizers. Another thing I liked about this book was that the faith aspect wasn't overdone. Frederick's struggle with faith is realistic for that time. He is what most people would consider a "good" man, but finds that doesn't always equate to faith in God. I read this little book in a few hours. Good clean romance and definitely a summer read

Love Thine Enemy

Love Thine enemy is set back in the American Revolution and took place in Fla. Rachel was brough to Fla by her father because she was so against the British and he was afraid to leave her in Boston. She hated slavery and wanted to do everything she could for the cause. She meet a plantation owner's son that was operating the plantation as his family was in England. Feredrick's (funny but that was my grandpa's name that was full German)aunt live with him and she was a very great lady. A widow and Rachel's father was a windower, hummmm. Anyway this was a good book and it made you want to turn to the back and see how it all came about, but don't do that you will ruin the story for yourself. This was the first book written by Louise M. Gouge but It want be the last. A great read and author.

Engaging read with memorable characters

"Love Thine Enemy" presents memorable characters with page-turning action. Set in Florida during the American Revolution, author Louise M. Gouge puts the reader in the town through strong description and realistic period dialogue. The main characters, Rachel Folger and Frederick Moberly are genuine with true chemistry. Rachel has a heart for helping others among other endearing qualities that instantly connects to the reader. Frederick is the hero we all love, struggling to do right while society looks down upon him. I was sucked into the book right away and unable to put it down until I finished! Gouge has a real way with her characters and hooking you into every chapter. "Love Thine Enemy" is a great read with a beautiful message of faith and love.
