great story

I picked this book up by sheer chance, and finished it that evening. Varek and Christine are great charactors, and kept me interested till the end. I thought the ending was a little abrupt, but at least it was fairly happy. There are some reality problems (6 miscarriages and they don't suspect anything?) but over all I would reccomend this book. Christine and Varek have been married for 10 years, and when Christine can't produce a child, Varek is forced to set her aside. Christine, unable to watch her husband marry another, runs away and marries someone else. When they meet again in venice 6 years later, Varek's wife has died in childbirth and Christine is married with a son. What follows is the struggle Christine has, both against Varek and her desire to be with him. I am definitly going to try her next one "While you slept".

awesome story

It has been a long time since i have read a story that was worth reading. I picked it up on a whim and couldn't put it down. All the characters are well developed and you find yourself immersed in the story until the very end. Lots of things going on (war, love, deceit, etc..) What a surprise ending, I had no idea what was coming. I hope too that we will see a sequel. This author is a sleeper and I hope that she continues to keep her stories unique, unlike many other great authors, who put out books due to publisher demands, which turn out to be worthless stories. I have found an author as great as Jude Devereaux was. Good luck to her future in writing.

Very Highly Recommended

I don't know where to start! I stumbled across this book, bought it and read it cover to cover in one evening. An excellent romance - and very different from the typical romance. Intense love story. Lots of heat! So many wonderful characters - you'll not only fall in love with the main characters, but also the secondary ones as well. (We can only hope that we'll see these characters with novels of their own in the near future!). And I hope hope hope that we'll see more of Christina and Varek! Well done!!!

This book is a keeper, it's non stop emotions you won't be able to put this book down. I know I did not. Ms Wendy Burge is a fantastic writer,keep right on writting. I would love a sequel of Christina and Varek because it can't end like that.

One of the most fabulous books I've read in a long time!

What can I say but whew! A roller coster of emotions that didn't stop with the last page. I was so involved with this story I couldn't put it down and I didn't want it to end! I can only hope that we will see more of Christina and Varek in a sequel some day. And some day soon!All I can say, is Ms. Burge give us more like this, please!
