Love Each Day- Live Each Day so You Would Want to Live it Again by Gail Bernice Holland is a very inspirational book. Right from the beginning the author asks if you would want to live each and every day over again. If there are too many days of "no's" in a row, something in your life should change. It shares stories from different perspectives written by the author. She did an exceptional job showing how things that happen could affect a person negatively or show something wonderful about a person`s character. A lot of what happens throughout our day, can be looked at as something positive with learning or as something negative that happened to you. I highly recommend this book to each and every person so they, too, will think about their lives without living a "blur" of a life. The book will remind you that life is short, live each moment and make the most of it. Change your attitude to become more laid back and accepting of what life throws you. If you are a negative person, it is time to change and you will find that life really is wonderful and precious.

Reviewed by Kam Aures for [...] (11/09) Gail Bernice Holland's book "Love Each Day- Live Each Day so You Would Want to Live it Again" is not a "how-to" book, but rather a grouping of stories from individuals describing a day that, to them, constitutes a day they loved. Holland takes the familiar quote of "Live each day as if it were your last" and changes it to a more responsible "Live each day so you would want to live it again." The former quote is not very realistic because if you were living every day as if it was your last you would most likely not take care of normal responsibilities, instead you would be living it up! The latter quote applies better to daily life. If you could pick one day of your life to live over again what day would it be? The day your child was born? Or maybe the day that you earned that big job promotion? Or was it the day that you scored the winning touchdown for your team in the biggest game of the year? Maybe it was as a day where you simply performed a random act of kindness for a stranger. As all of us are unique individuals we each place different values on different things. What may seem insignificant to one person may be another's pride and joy. "Love Each Day- Live Each Day so You Would Want to Live it Again" is a collection of forty true accounts of individuals describing a day that he/she would like to relive. These inspirational stories although unique in every way, all show us aspects of what makes a day worth living over. The stories in the book are short, most are only about two to three pages long, but they really will cause you to think and reflect about what is important to you. Being that we are all different, a one-size-fits-all manual on how to love every day may not necessarily apply to us. Holland's book, however, allows us to draw out of each story relevant parts that inspire us as an individual. The stories presented will make you realize that a happy and fulfilling life comes in many shapes and forms and a meaningful, important day is not always as cut and dry as you may think!

"Love Each Day: Live each day so you would want to live it again" is refreshingly realistic. If you are looking for pop-psych or gee-whiz inspiration, you won't find it here. What you will find instead are short reflections by real people of all ages and descriptions, telling us about a day that they would like to live again. Ms. Holland asked her subjects to avoid the day-I-got-married, day-I-won-my-Olympic-medal examples that focus on obvious highs. As a result, she brings to us a book based on the kinds of special and satisfying days we all have sometimes--a day when a personal goal is achieved, or we are re-awakened to a special wonder, or we make a connection with someone else in an enriching way. I, at least, found that in dipping into the good days of people like and unlike myself, I re-connected somewhere in the back of my mind with my own good, enriching and satisfying experiences. In that way, perhaps, I experienced a bit of a gee-whiz buzz after all. In any case, it is a book one can read for awhile, put down, pick up, and keep by the bedside for a long time.

Truly a Gift to Read

Reviewed by Paige Lovitt for Reader Views (7/09) "Love Each Day" is a beautifully written book that contains 40 inspiring essays about people from different walks of life. The main point of the book is to "Live each day so you would want to live it again." Each story focuses on an individual's experience in which they realized that they were having one of those days that they would want to live again. The topics cover a variety of situations which run from having a relaxing day, to qualifying for the Olympics, to setting foot on the moon. Each one is valuable in itself because I felt like it inspired me to see that my ordinary life has incredible meaning, and if I choose to have the right attitude, even the difficult moments can be seen in a more favorable light. I really enjoyed reading these stories. I appreciated that each person allowed the author to interview them for this book. Their stories should be told so that we can be inspired to look at our lives and create our own stories. Some of my most incredible life-altering moments have come from mundane experiences. I found myself tapping into a source that allowed me to see things on a higher level. "Love Each Day" reminded me of many of these experiences that I have had. Several have happened while at work. Realizing that I have my own special moments reminded me that I need to appreciate my career more and the incredible people that come into my life. By reading this book, I see that there is less emphasis on the importance of money and material things and importance placed on engaging in activities that are meaningful and being of service to others. This is where we will find true meaning in our lives. I highly recommend "Love Each Day" by Gail Bernice Holland to graduates who are ready to launch themselves out into the world. By giving them this message early, they will find themselves seeking out much more meaningful careers. I also think that people who are in public service jobs will also benefit from this book. It might even help them avoid burn out.
