Sometimes a painful childhood is enough to make a child drop off the edge. Those reading this book probably haven't done so, or may just be teetering there. It's one thing to just write a dramatic story, but it's another to capture a painful life in a compassionate way that others not in that situation can follow and relate to. A well-written, important book at a time when homelessness and addiction are so prevalent, and even moreso for the children/teens who may be teetering...
