Lewis "Lou" Allan Reed, born on March 2nd, 1942, Brooklyn, New York City, New York, U.S., was a musician, singer, songwriter, composer, photographer and poet. He was the lead guitarist, vocalist and principal songwriter for the rock group the Velvet Underground, having also had a solo career that spanned 5 decades. The band wasn't a commercial success during its existence, but came to be regarded as one of the most influential groups in the history of underground and alternative rock music.
