The Search for a Lost Daughter

In this interesting story, the mother of a dysfunctional family searches for her missing daughter, which is all she can focus on until tragedy also strikes her other daughter.

I loved this book!!!

It was both funny and suspenseful. I listened to it on tape and thought the actress reading it was great. I've read all of Fielding's books and this is my favorite.

She Will Stop at Nothing to Get Her Daughter Back

I have to admit that I didn't like this book very much at first and gave it a bad review, but on a second reading (many months later) I've decided to change my mind. True the book is slow going till about page fifty-five or so, but then it takes off like Thunderbolt the Wonder Colt, not slowing down for even a paragraph. Cindy Carver is having a bad morning, her aspiring actress daughter Julia is banging on the bathroom door, trying to get her sister to hurry up. Julia has an audition with a famous director and all she's thinking about is herself. The dog needs to be walked. It wasn't sister Heather in the bathroom at all, but her boyfriend, now Julia and Heather are arguing. That night Julia doesn't come home. Cindy is sure something has happened. She involves the cops. She calls the hospitals. Her ex thinks she's overreacting. Cindy goes to Julia's boyfriend's, gets his roommate to let her in, goes through his stuff, finds semi-nude photos of her daughter, then finds the beginning of a novel about a guy who is going to kill his girlfriend. She calls the cops. They can't hold him. Then a dead body turns up that matches Julia's description. It's another girl. And so on and so on. As a thriller, this book is first rate, but it also delves into the relationships of a dysfunctional family and I'm sure a lot of readers will see a lot of themselves on Fielding's pages. Fielding is a gifted writer who obviously understands people and she's written a might powerful book here. Review submitted by Captain Katie Osborne

Lost

Joy Fielding at her best. A very timely book on a woman looking for her beautiful 21 year old daughter who just disappeared. This is one of those books, that you say you are only going to read for a few minutes before you go to sleep and then stay up into the wee hours of the night!Joy Fieldings book have a certain familiarity, usually there is an ex-husband, who is made to look like the biggest ego maniac in the world, but as a woman I myself have met quite a few myself, so I secretly tee-hee at her wonderful expressive anger at the ex, as its so honest! And then there is usually a Mister Right waiting in the wings for her to trust again, and in this book, this is all there. The thing that I just love about Joy's Fieldings book is you feel like your reading a book about your own family, and herangst, guilt and insecurities are so familiar you just have to chuckle at the very common dysfunctional that I think exists in most families to a certain degress, and yet you still fill the love (and exasperation) she feels towards her well meaning family.I highly recommend this book, its just simply a wonderful read of pure entertainment. One of those books that is a treat waiting for you to read later. The only thing I wish is that editors would allow her to write longer books to let some characters have bigger roles. It seems that every book has to be 400 pages, and I wouldLOVE to have had about 200 more pages to learn more about her new boyfriend, more about her youngest daughter, just as much as I could because her writing has almost an addictive quality about it. When it ended, I actually thought, aw darn! Not because it wasn't an interesting ending and there were many twists in the books, but she is one of those writers who make you feel like you've acquired a friend and you just want her to keep writing to know how things are going.A GOOD read, keep writing Joy, your stuff is just wonderful, and I relate so much and feel like I have a partner in crime.I recommmend reading alot of her other books, like Kiss Mommy Goodbye, The Other Woman, etc., etc. Those are just a couple of favorites, but almost every book I like. Your never sorry your bought her book and I've read every one and I'm a BIG fan, if only she could write a book a month, Joy, I'd be happy! Thanks for another great read! This one is up there in the top three as far as favorites go, if not the best!Sincerely,Jill C. Guenther

Romantic Suspense Thriller Leads Reader on Merry Chase

From the opening sentence, 'The morning began, as did so many of their mornings, with an argument', to the final chapter, the reader is pulled into this suspenseful tale of a missing daugher being sought by her overwrought mother. Cindy Carver is the divorced mother who teeters on the brink of insanity as she searches for her missing twenty-one-year-old daughter. The mother-daughter relationship they share is explored from birth as Cindy examines what went wrong and her responsibility in Julia's disappearance. Visions of kidnapping, torture, and other forms of lurid death drive Cindy to hysteria, and an unbalanced neighbor, a self-serving ex-husband, an overbearing sister, and an overprotective mother don't add much comfort. The reader will breathlessly follow Cindy as she wildly grabs at each and every thread that may lead her to find her missing daughter. There are many red herrings including an incontinent dog named Elvis and a new lover too good to be true to distract her before the finale that has Cindy re-examining her relationship with both of her daughters.Engrossing and thoroughly spell-binding, this is a quick read that entertains completely.
