Lost at Sea

Lost at Sea is a quick read with high interest for the reader. Most middle school students would enjoy this book because it is realistic fiction with the two main characters being about that age. I agree with the previous review that the ending leaves you hanging and wanting to know more about their lives. I would read more books by this author.

Good read for appropriate age group

I read this book as part of an 11th Grade Language arts project, and found it to be an easy read. The surprising part was that even though this was an easy book to read it still kept the readers interest. Due to some minor references to nude beaches and other information that may be considered inappropriate, I would recommend this to the 8-12th grade range. Anyone above that point may find the book boring, and below may not fully understand some of the content. As far as the writing style, I enjoyed how the author switched point of views between the children frequently in order to give you a better understanding of how they are handling the situation both physically as well as mentally. Jonathon Neale made sure that you understood which child was speaking by putting their names in big letters before beginning the text. The author incorporates sailing terms into the book, but makes sure to explain them while remaining in context. Overall I would highly recommend this book, it offers a unique twist into your normal action type story. My only complaint would be that the ending leaves you hanging, waiting for more.
