For educators

It's not just a good read but you gain skills that you can use if you are in education. I would suggest all administrators require this book for their teachers. The techniques that are provided will only become a better tool as you use them. If you are in education to build strong academic learners and productive members of society then this is the book for you. It educates on best practices for behavior mamagement, lagging skills and unsolved problems. The scenarios are relatable/ realistic and truly teaches what is needed to assist our students and beyond.

Helping Kids That Really Need It & Helping Me Become a Better Teacher

I wish I had read this book when it first came out! Lost at School is full of anecdotal situations that made me feel as if I were in my own classroom, holding conversations with kids who just needed someone to go a little deeper to figure out how to help them find ways to succeed. The book clearly explains what struggling students need to learn (the "lagging skills") and that they need to be truly involved in finding ways to resolve their issues (the "unsolved problems.") The model conversations taught me the most, as I was able to hear the process clearly, and understand how to put into words what I needed to ask and what I should and should not say. I learned a lot, how to really listen and reflect/rephrase back what the child is saying instead of rushing to judgement or hurrying to tell the student what I think the problem/solution is. Collaborating with the struggling student is the key, so that it becomes a "win-win" situation for everyone instead of a "lost at school" situation where no one benefits. I'm so glad I got this book ~ I can easily see myself using the strategies in my own classroom this coming school year and for years to come.

Lost at School

This is a non-confrontational approach to assessing, defining, and correcting a behavior problem. What a relief to know there is another way! When no one is made to be the "enemy", it promotes a healthier way. Gives you back your hope that your child will grow to be an emotionally healthy and productive adult.
