This story is about Nate, a young Asian boy who has lost one of his shoes and goes on the hunt for his lost shoe and on the way finds other things that he has missed placed. Nate's big sister Kim is not very helpful and like it or not yes, she's not being helpful and if you have siblings if you reach back and really remember your sisters, brothers or both they aren't or wheren't always helpful to helping you when they where doing something. It's a fact of life some brother and sisters don't want to help and sometimes they do. I think this is a book is a level 2 reader, it uses real photos which all kids like to see kids that look like them. I like that it's main characters are Asian and a boy with an Asian boys are sometimes hard to find. Check it out at your local library to see if this book is right for your child.
A review of "Lost and Found" -- a level 2 reader

"Lost and Found" is a Level 2 book in the Real Kids Readers series (for "children who can read with help"). If you are not familiar with the series it uses large, bright photos (of children, animals, etc.) to both engage children and give them clues as to what the story is about. This particular book is about Nate. He wants to go outside and play, but there is a problem. Nate can't find one of his sneakers. So he begins to search, and it turns out that he finds so much 'cool' misplaced-and-forgotten stuff that he decides he doesn't want to go outside. Not when he has so much cool stuff to play with inside! As far as the reading level the biggest change from the Level 1 Real Kids Readers are that there are more sentences per page. An example of text from page 14 (one of the hardest pages) follows so you can judge for yourself. It is a joke book he thought was lost. Nate reads a joke: "Why did the boy walk over the hill? Because he could not walk under it." Nate grins. "That's a good one," he says. But he still needs his sneaker. Nate's sneaker is not under his bed. It is not in his closet. Where could it be? As you can see, the vocabulary, while varied, is not too much harder than some of the Level 1 books. I should also add that the print is still fairly large. Four Stars. [B-]. A good successor to the Level 1 books. This book has a humorous bent that should appeal to children. Vocabulary is not too hard, but there are more sentences per page.
