A hilarious sequel to the Hoboken Chicken Emergency!

Looking for Bobowicz is another great Daniel Pinkwater book, the first sequel to the Hoboken Chicken Emergency (another 5 star book). After their Classic Comics books are stolen by a Phantom, three kids take on the challenge of hunting down the Phantom -- and discover that all the adults in town go mum whenever they ask about it. Along the way, they meet a crazy librarian, Meehan the bum, and a pirate radio DJ named Vic Trola... (And learn about great literature!) Also, check out the next book in the series - The Artsy Smartsy Club.

funny book

This book is about the crazy adventures that Nick finds himself in after his move from Happy Valley to Hoboken, New Jersey. At first Nick does not like his move to a different city, but he soon finds himself having the time of his life after befriending two kids his age, Loretta and Bruno. This trio spent most their first days together laying around in the coolness of a basement reading "Classics Comics." They soon find themselves enthralled in excitement, though, when things began to mysteriously disappear. These disappearances soon lead them to begin an adventure to learn the story of a phantom and the truth behind a giant, 266-pound chicken owned by Arthur Bobowicz. I liked this book because it is a whimsical tale that allows the imagination to run wild. The reader is taken on a fast-paced ride through the pages of this book that takes them to places of unusual and impossible situations. It is written in style similar to the styling of Louis Sachar, author of Sideways Stories from Wayside School and other books, complete with weird adult and children characters who undergo unusual circumstances. The situations that the characters find themselves in make you laugh out loud because of their absurdity. Yes, I would definitely recommend this book to children of all ages. Even though I am a adult, I still enjoyed this book, as it breaks out from the "norm" of children's books. This book will allow a family or child (or adult!) to have a good, clean, fun time reading it.

another (chicken) Feather in Pinkwater's cap!

What a fun romp this Pinkwater book is! The book starts out on a gloomy note, with the young protagonist, Ivan, resenting his parents' move to urban Hoboken. Soon he finds 2 new best friends who assist him in sleuthing down a decades-old mystery. The character sketches are rich, but the book is fast-paced and an easy read. This would be a great read-aloud in a 2nd or 3rd grade classroom or a wonderful read-alone for 4th grade and up. Looking for Bobowicz might also be used to inspire older grades in writing local lore adventures. Librarians will especially enjoy the characterization of Starr Lackawanna, the librarian who helps the children solve the giant chicken phantom mystery.

Pinkwater's back on the Hoboken Beat

Nick Itch's mom wants him to have "an urban experience" so the family moves from Happy Valley to an old house in the waterfront city of Hoboken. Nick bonds with the kids next door over over bottles of Dr. Pedwee's soda and Classic Comics. Soon the friends get caught up in a search, not for meaning, but for Bobowicz. Delivered in Pinkwater's seemingly effortless, jazz-like prose style, this sequel to his classic HOBOKEN CHICKEN EMERGENCY is a delight.

Hoboken Hijinks

The Pinkwaters at work -- always a cause for celebration. Like its 20th century predecessor, "The Hoboken Chicken Emergency," this book is full of wit, wile, and the kind of assorted nonsense that fans young and old will appreciate.
