Wow!! What a great book. I simply can't say enough good things about it. "Look For Me In The Whirlwind" is definitely one of the best books that I have read in a long time. I enjoyed every minute of it. I was hesitant when I first started reading due to the fact that I am only 15 and I live in Bowling Green Ohio. I didn't think that I would really be able to enjoy a book dealing with the Black Panther Party but boy was I wrong. It opened my eyes to a world that I had never seen before. It goes into great detail about 16 of the New York 21's lives. Starting with thier upbringing and schooling. This book really shows what it was like to be black growing up in a still very racist and discriminating society. It also deals alot with the street gang era of the 50's, something that I had no prior knowledge of. All of these experiences come first hand from the people who actually lived them. It is fascinating to see people who are able to struggle through tremendous oppression both from our government and society and still have enough drive and motivation to fight for the well being of others. This book really opened my eyes to a culture completely alien to me. Despite this, however, I still was able to put the things that were talked about and use them in my own life. It really helps break down the walls of racial descrimination. If we fear what we don't understand, then this book really strips away any fear that one could ever have about the black culture and the society surrounding it. I absolutely loved the book, and I highly reccomend it to everyone.
