This April 2008 episode of Longarm has him involved with a young lad who he spots shoplifting when he is in a little mercantile to pick op a supply of his favorite two for a nickle cherrots ;which he seems to be getting for two for a penny. This kid really gets under Longarm's skin after he seems to be totally unremorseful and won't even talk to Longarm or anyone else;even though he has spent several days chained up in a livery,awaiting the arrival of a judge. Finally, Longarm gets through to the lad and finds he has lost his family who was attacked by owlhoots. It is not a bad tale; but quite different from the stock and trade we have come to expect in this great series. There is very little in good Old West talk,and descriptions ,and one wonders if the author has much experience in writing Westerns.The writing is less than colorful and there is not much development in the characters. The story is really short,and even at that;it is spread out over 46 Chapters with a blank page between ecah one.Many chapters are barely 2 pages long.The reader gets the feeling that a short weak story has been "stretched" out to the typical 180 or so pages we expect in this series. The only reason I rated this one 4* rather than 3* was the artwork on the cover,particularly "The Tiny Thief",than we have been getting lately.
