Longarm gets sent to Presidio,Texas to retrieve some old rifles that have been stolen during shipment by the Army.While these rifles are obsolete and destined to be destroyed,they can still wreck havoc in the hands of the wrong people. It seems like a task well suited for Longarm;but from his arrival,Longarm soon sees it is going to be more difficult than first thought, to get the rifels back.First of all,the local Law doesn't even want him involved;and on top of that,a Texas Ranger who was also sent to help solve the problem has disappeared. The story flows quickly,has lots of fast-action,interesting characters,and some seemingly impossible situations for our hero. A little bit of everything gets into the saga.Mexican gangs,Mexican politics.Revolutionaries,and quickly developed friendships and loyalties. In this land ,south of the border,Longarm soon realizes he can trust nobody, and as usual,has to trust to his basic instincts,and unrelenting inner as well as physical strengths. A good read and a typical tale in the great Longarm series.
