"Some men are too brave for their own good, but I think you were just stupid." Longarm

This episode finds Longarm trying to get settled down in Denver, getting involved in a little dustup,a good relationship starting to develop;and then, as usual, Marshal Billy Vail has a job for him in New Mexico. The srory is set in Monntezuma, which appears to be fictional, located half-way between Santa Fe and Taos. That would place it somewhere around what is now Penasco. The year is 1881,and a few months before President Garfield was assassinated and whine Chester Arthur was his Vice-President. Lots of people are getting murdered ,including the Marshal, for no apparent reason.Since Vice-President Arthur is about to visit Montezuma,Longarm is sent to find out who is doing the killing and bring the perpetraters to justice. What we get is a good action- packed saga with lots of twists and turns. The story doesn't become a whodunnit or convoluted mystery;because Longarm deduces pretty quickly who the person or persons are,and once he determines the reason for all the killings;he sets about getting the goods on the crooks and closing down their schemes. As usual,he meets some real interesting characters and develops some great relationships. These relationships really blossom as our hero is badly injured and must remain for an extended recovery period. No doubt he will turn it into a well deserved rest, relaxation and recovery at the Government's expense. You might say it is well overdue.
