(Book #379 in the Longarm Series)

On a quest for vengeance, Longarm must keep his head above water... When Longarm rides into the usually dry Warhorse, Arizona Territory, torrential storms greet him. But he's only in town long enough to find Ed Galloway, train robber and murderer of Longarm's friend. Then some vigilantes come looking for the well-loved, peace-loving local Marshal Pat Ryan. And Longarm starts to wonder if the star-packer is who he says he is--or if he's got his man...

"If I didn't know better,I'd say that we needed to start building a big boat."

In this episode we find Longarm in Warhorse,Arizona to find and arrest Ed Galloway, wanted for train robbery a couple of years back. What makes this assignment personal is that Longarm was good friends with the conductor on the train ,who was murdered during the holdup. Word had been received by Marshal Billy Vail that Galloway was seen in Warhorse and Longarm was only too willing to find him and bring him to the justice he deserves. Longarm arrives in Warhorse, but nobody was seen no heard of anyone fitting Galloway's description.Longarm soon gets to know all the important people in Warhorse, especially the owner of the local newspaper, the Doctor,,the Undertaker and even the local Marshal,Pat Ryan, who has been doing a great job of keeping everything peaceful for the last couple of years;and who is well liked by the townspeople. Longarm soon settles in,despite a massive rainstorm that has everything inundated and even the only bridge into town gets washed away. Longarm has his suspicions and what we get is an action filled story of unsurmountable odds, and several well developed and interesting characters as Longarm uses all his wits to smoke out his quarry and bring him to justice.Longarm has some tough choices to make;including his first and formost duty of bringing the wanted man in,and using his sense of justice that fights with the letter of the law.Tough as the situations that our hero faces, rest assured that Longarm will solve the dilemma he uncovers.
