WHO WOULD MURDER A MAN WITH AIDS? Denver antiques dealer Jason Lynx has a deep interest in answering that question. For the victim was Ron Willis, brother of policewoman Grace Willis, the woman Jason hopes to marry. There's not much to go on: only Ron's address book and his desperate search for cash the night before his death. Of course there is also the mysterious skeleton that rescue workers find near Ron's body--surprisingly on property belonging to the Credable family, a Denver dynasty built on violence and greed. These days the Credables are the soul of upper-class respectability. Or so it seems. Goaded by Grace's irrational response to the tragedy, Jason inches toward the truth--about a killer, himself, and the woman he loves.... "Orde writes with a firm, precise voice and Lynx is a well-drawn and likable character." --San Antonio Express News
Jason Lynx and environs are always interesting. This is a triple-stranded book, braiding bits concerning Jason's love Grace's brother's death, a crickety little man being harrased over the family monstrosity of a house by his odious cousin, and Jason needing Grace to commit to marriage. Add an old friend's desire to set up a think-tank to benefit Colorado's ecology, the state long-stripped of minerals and trees by robber barons, the separate disappearance a generation ago of two friends, a client eagerly anticipating marriage to a man known to the police to be a woman-beater, Orde's fully sketched secondary characters, and you will gulp this story. As well, Jason has referred in previous books to be a Navy demolition expert, and this time we see him in action. Treat yourself to this series! You're worth it! (Read in chronological order as characters are introduced, and develop throughout the books.)
