A Different View of a Familar Story

Lonesome Road is the autobiography of George Harsh. In it, he discusses his past in a Georgia Chain Gang, and through a remarkable turn of events, how he is released. After entering in the Canadian RAF, he is commissioned, and later shot down over Nazi occupied Europe. This is where the familiar story of "The Great Escape" comes in. Harsh describes, with vivid realism, his account of the mass escape from a German Luft-Stalag. His unique viewpoint, as a former prisoner, gives the reader the feeling of futility in the whole escape endeavor. A must read for fans of both the novel "The Great Escape" and the movie of the same name.

Fascinating story

The interesting thing about George Harsh is that he wasn't an innocent man. As a teenager he took part in a murder; then he served years in a Georgia chain gang. He got out in time to join the RAF, get shot down, and serve more years in a WWII German POW camp. His life was difficult, but he writes with a certain maturity that must have come from long years of hardship.

pageturner

This book is a must read. What this man goes through is something no innocent man should have to deal with. I guarantee you this will be one of your favorites
