A very good piece of historical fiction

Barbara Temple, transplanted from George to frontier Kansas by the horrors of the American Civil War, has realized that she cannot live without Charlie Warren, and has agreed to marry him and accompany him out to homestead along the Santa Fe Trail. Life is hard on the frontier, and so often Barbara finds herself looking back towards her life in Antebellum Georgia. Opportunity seems to knock when she learns that she has inherited some land in Georgia, and must return to claim it. Barbara must now decide on which life she will choose - her old life in Georgia with her old acquaintances, or her new and harder life in Kansas with Charlie? This is a very good piece of historical fiction - it really does do a good job of presenting life in both frontier Kansas and in Reconstruction Georgia. The story is interesting, with a wide variety of experiences woven seamlessly into the narrative. The characters are quite interesting, and I really liked how the author placed the character's faith in the story. Yeah, this is a very good book - an interesting and uplifting read. I really enjoyed it and highly recommend it. By the way, though this is the middle book of a three-book series (between The Enchanted Prairie and The Wandering Trails) it can be read and enjoyed just for itself.
