A Superb Collection of Beautiful, Full-Color Cards
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 15 years ago
I've always been a lobby card collector. I much prefer them to one-sheets (which are always printed on flimsy paper) or inserts (which are an awkward shape) or window cards (which are usually disfigured by crudely marked up theater information). In fact, I've used lobby cards from my own collection as illustrations in many of my books, such Films Famous, Fanciful, Frolicsome & Fantastic. The problem is that lobby cards are generally full-color items that don't reproduce well in black-and-white. Of course, there are exceptions. Most of the title cards used in the above book have come out extremely well, particularly "Sleepers West". I know there are people who collect title cards only, so they are warned there only 12 such cards in this book. The rest of us, however, will enjoy all 80 of these cards from "Broken Blossoms" (1919) through to "Casablanca" (1943), beautifully reproduced, one to a page.
