I bought a copy of this work at the urging of my sister. I must say I am thoroughly impressed with this first-time author's refreshing take on interpersonal relationships of the middle-aged African American. The characters complement each other delightfully and the writing is simultaneously thought-provoking and downright hilarious.I love that the author pulls us into the characters' world through the use of the first person prose--Very unique, very gratifying. I also love her poetic writing style. The imagery is superb. Makes it easy to get "caught up", at times forgetting you're just a reader. I look forward to sequels and other novels by this author. Hopefully lovers of the written word everywhere will have the opportunity to read her works. Special note: I appreciate the fact that the author left out the explicit sex scenes and overuse of four-letter words. Not all of us find that necessary or even entertaining. We are allowed to use our imaginations and I feel comfortable recommending this book to readers of all ages and colors. One warning: Chris is so understatedly charming that you may, like me, develop a crush on him. Shhh, that's my secret. Let's keep that between us.

This book appeals to every part of the human psyche. As you move from chapter to chapter you'll laugh, cry, get mad, get sad, and then get glad again. It is filled with mystery, suspense, drama and comedy. The author has an excellent command of the english language and eloquently descibes the characters and their surroundings so vividly that they come to life. I felt like I knew them and I became so personally invested in each of them, that I couldn't wait to see what happened next. This is definitely a page turner. The book also has universal appeal. People of all ages and races will enjoy the candid look at family, friendship, and male-female relationships. My 69 year old mother and I read the book simultaneously and we both enjoyed it thoroughly. We've had countless conversations about the various characters and themes. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good story. It uniquely addresses hard issues with humor, compassion and sensitivity and teaches some valuable life lessons in the process. It is a literary jewel.

Sometimes you just want to relax with a good book and get away from a while. I did that with LIVING ON THE EDGE OF RESPECTABILITY. I enjoyed its humor as well as its touching, tear-jerking moments. It was fresh and fast and funny, and I'm telling all of my girlfriends about it.

Wow! What a wonderful tale of friendship & enduring love. The three characters ring so true to life & their tales are often heart-wrenching. Still, EDGE has a lot of humor & wit. It makes you think, cry, & laugh...and appreciate your family & friends. It is a beautiful story.
