This is a fantastic book

Jack Lalanne has written this book many times in his life. It's a pretty simple message, Eat Right, Exercise and Keep a Positive Attitude! This isn't radical or extreme, we all have the power to control what goes into our mouths, every day. He says that there's a difference between hearing the message and getting the message. That has been my problem over the years. My intentions are good but I'm weak in many ways. This book looks great, which makes reading it enjoyable. The design is very modern. I attribute that to working with Robert Kennedy and his company. I intend to keep this book close and make it my bible for fitness. Jack's old, very old. You could point to him and say, well, he's an anomaly, a freak of nature and I could never do that. I look at him and say that if he can do it, I can do something similar. Besides when you look at what he's done, standing next to him is Elaine who's not doing too bad herself.

Jack LaLanne: health icon

Jack LaLanne's remarkable health and vitality have always been an inspiration for me. How does he do it? Can I do it? In this book has he finally put it all together so that any of us can do it? I am not sure that we all can do what he has done, but I am sure that he has told us how he did it. In the modern style, he reduces his ideas into a 12-step program. Those steps, each the topic of a separate chapter, are: Motivation Stay Away From Killer Habits Personal Care Eating Clean Maintain Perfect Posture Stay Well Hydrated Stretching Find Some Energy Be In A Solid Relationship Work Out Never Retire Consume Plenty of Fruits and Vegetables. Like some of the other reviewers, I found a lot of his advice to be elementary level. It was not the kind of "secrets" book I was hoping to find. My expectations were not met, but that was a problem with my expectations. In this book Jack tells you what he did - and for him it has been a great success. If you were to categorize Jack LaLanne, you would say that he is someone who has mostly lived by the conventional wisdom - rigorously applied - and shown how you can achieve great results for yourself that way. The fact that he has no "secrets" to disclose poses a threat and challenge to all the experts and gurus who try to peddle such secrets. His message seems to be a simple one: clean living, positive attitude, whole foods diet, and regular exercise. It has worked for him. Jack LaLanne is a very quotable guy. Here are my favorite nuggets from the book: -There is no fountain of youth. What you put in your body is what you get out of it. (10) -If man makes it, don't eat it. I do my best to avoid anything in a can or a box. (14) -Anything in life is possible, and YOU make it happen. (15) -You really can change your life. (34) -Most of the causes of dying before one's time are avoidable. (38) -I learned my lesson about moderation. Just because one apple is good for you, it doesn't mean that 80 apples will do 80 times as much good. (24) -Your workouts will not exceed 30-40 minutes. And you won't do them every day of the week. (33) -You came into this life alone and you're going to leave it alone. But in between, make the rest of your life the best of your life. (275) Thanks, Jack LaLanne, for showing us a way to live! *******

Outstanding Exercise and Nutrition Information

I love this book and I love Jack Lalanne. I also read his previous book, 'Revitalize'. This particular book was inspiring enough for me to give it five stars in spite of the fact that a page or two was missing from my copy. I believe it was about Page 112 or 114. I don't have the book with me as I'm writing this. Nevertheless, it was at a point where Jack was writing about organic produce versus inorganic with the pesticides and herbicides, etc. Jack, if you're reading this, please email me the missing pages and all is forgiven. By the way, I tried steam-cooking fresh fish the way you recommended in one of your TV shows and it was terrific. Keep up the good work. John Gerhart johngerhart@live.com

Jack knows.

I figured if I want to live a long healthy life, who better to listen to than someone who's strong, healthy and has all his marbles at 95? Mr. LaLanne's book doesn't disappoint. He's very inspiring and I recommend his book highly.

Great book!

This is a wonderful book! Jack LaLanne has written a very motivational and inspiring gotta-have book. Just received it a few days ago, and have been very impressed by its very up beat tone. So much nutritional and exercise information, as well as lots of stories from Jack's career. I like his idea that no one is beyond improving themselves through good nutrition and exercise. Just what Americans need to read and heed. Thanks Jack--you are truly an inspiration!
