I got this book in Kilkenny for 4.99 Irish Punts, about the same as the North American price. Although there are only twenty-seven songs in this little volume, some of them are not to be found elsewhere. I have especially enjoyed playing the arrangements of Follow Me Up To Carlow and The Parting Glass in this book. The words to the song The Lark In The Morning herein are different from those of the singing of Paddy Tunny, a further illustration of the vigor and variation to be found in true folk music.
A Little Irish Songbook
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 24 years ago
If you are looking for authentic, beautiful, and moving Irish songs that aren't in most Irish songbooks, this book is for you. It has very easy to play arrangements of these harder to find songs, most with chords for guitar that can also be faked on piano, and the melodies embellished. The Lark in the Morning, Carrickfergus, and The Bard of Armagh are some of my favourites in this book. The illustrations are also pleasing. The only problem with this book is the size of this book--the notes are quite tiny.
