a must read for everyone

The book unveils the stereotypes that adults use to bind little girls from before birth, leading them to think that behaviour differences between boys and girls originate from their "biological" differences. Of course, nothing could be less true, but what is great is that Belotti writes without any anger, or stupor, or sarcasm: she is just explaining, and "peacefully fighting". Although dated, the books gives a poignant and in-depth account of 1960-70 Italy "on the side of little girls", as the original title reads. Having always been a "different" little girl, I had to learn how to stand on my own, without embracing any stereotype. This book helped me understand more deeply "why" I always felt so different, and what I great job my parents have done in bringing up my sister, my brother and I. It has to be said that, at least in the North of Italy, things have changed for those born in the second half of the 1970s, but I constantly find myself struggling with older people, even thirtysomethings. Since I do Humanities at university I have a high chance of secondary school teaching someday: this book will be a must read throughout the school year, you can be sure!
