Great little book for a nice price- nice graduation gift!

I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of this book. The stock photo doesn't do it justice. I posted some better pictures of it to give you an idea. This book is made of a thick hardcover, with thick, full-color pages. I did not read it (I bought it is a gift for someone else) but I skimmed through and saw that there are pages inspired by Hamlet, Mark Twain, Yeats, Charles Lindbergh, Walt Disney, Woody Allen, Chris Rock, Ellen Degeneres, Bill Cosby....way too many to name. There is a beautiful letter in it written by James Baldwin to his nephew on the subject of overcoming racism with understanding, and even love. It has a little bit about Feng Shui, motorcycle maintenance, an entry from Anne Frank's diary, how to journal and the lyrics to "I will survive" (just to name a few). I saw one poem to "God", and maybe one or two other things from the bible, but the book in no way has a religious theme. There is even a piece about spirituality that explains that it does not have to be religious at all. Pretty much anyone could find something they can use or be inspired by in this book. I have seen many of these kinds of books in gift stores and this one seems to be much more charming, practical, smart, humorous and well thought out than any others I have seen. It's just a nice eclectic mix of ideas, thoughts, advice, letters, quotes and short stories...perfect for a person at a crossroads in their life who is still trying to find themselves. Yes, you could "Google" any of these topics and find information on them, but the beauty of a book like this is that the ideas and information can find you, rather than the other way around. That can be a very good thing. This book would make a lovely gift for a graduate or ANYONE of any age who is going through a confusing time or who just enjoys contemplating themselves and their life.

Pure Delight

This book is pure delight!! It also makes a perfect gift for birthdays, hostess, holiday etc. There is a "following" for the "little" books and the proof is in ths book. Enjoy!!!!

wonderful book

I love this little book and have purchased many copies for friends and family members. If you need a thought to get you through a tough time, it may well be here. Think your problem unique? Chances are it is covered in this book. Want to smile? Lots to smile about in this little book. Five stars aren't nearly enough for this book. Not only is it wise and funny and helpful, it is beautiful to boot. I have a copy in my shopping cart right now and will purchase it and send it to a close friend for her birthday.

not just for high-school graduation!

I thought this book was great - i bought it for my friend's college graduation, and was a bit worried before it arrived that it might be more the reading enjoyment level of a high-school student, but it has all sorts of writings, excerpts from the classics, historical speeches, poems, etc. and all are inspiring no matter what stage of life you may be in.

Great bits of inspiration

If you like quotes or short essays about how to live your life, what's important in life, and what is funny about being human, this is a great choice. There is a lot of good material here, including graduation speeches, poems and song lyrics. There are a lot of books similar to this for sale, but this one does an exceptionally good job of finding really worthwhile items to inspire even cynics. And the illustrations are good, too. This would be a good buy for a quotation enthusiast or for a young person (maybe a graduate) who needs a boost of optimism and wisdom. And none of it is too heavy--there is much humor here.
