Highly Readable, Entertaining, Informative, Scholarly Enough

There is a joke poking around the academe. What individual single-handedly writes a Big Volume work spanning all of American Literature? Answer: the one with the guts to actually do so instead of compiling equally giant tomes of existing essays and skipping away with the Editor credit. Other reviewers, mostly from the aforementioned academe, stated that this would never be the tool of a "serious" literature student. Good thing I don't take myself too seriously. This is a delightfully composed work, broad in scope, and more than adequately informative for all classes.
