A story of love and heartbreak in the Second World War - With the country preparing for war, beautiful Linden Woods finds employment as a secretary at a Black Country steelworks, where she befriends the charismatic and liberated Penny, daughter of wealthy steel magnate Charles Burgayne. Charles sons, Edward and Hugh, are soon vying for Lindens attention, but with vastly different methods. Linden grows to love one brother and despise the other, with devastating consequences...
I happened to pick up this book on a whim at our Public Library in the "new" section. After reading the back cover, I was intrigue with romance set in World War II. I found that I enjoyed the story of Linden Woods and what happens in her lifetime over a short period (pre-WWII up until the war ended for Ending in 1945). The author did a great job in bringing the reader back to that era and how families had to cope with losing a brother, husband, or loved-one. I enjoyed reading the book and stayed up late to finish the last few chapters. Give the book a try!
